Read the article found here.  ​Levels of phytoplankton in an ocean area may seem like a good predictor for the amount of fish that can be caught there, but a new study by Nereus Program researchers finds that this relationship is not so straightforward.  Explain this statement using specific examples from the article.  How is climate change expected to impact food chains in the ocean?

The climate effects the food chain because the weather can affect the stuff growing, or the animals living there. The most one that gets effected is the fish production.

Climate change is expected to impact food chains in the ocean because the effects of climate change on fisheries production allows the work more confidence in advertising these products. The climate change will impact fisheries and these findings allow for better predictions of catch potential in different ecosystems.

People wish that by telling how much levels of phytoplankton is in an area it could tell you how much fish could be caught in that area. But it is a more complicated because there are several steps in the food chain that can complicate it. Climate change can impact the food chains because if they weather is changing it could prevent things in certain areas from growing

The phytoplankton is believed to be the reason by how the fish become populated but it really isn't. The fish population depends more on climate and ecosystem.The climate affects the food chain by it being different in the areas and also effect the fisheries who try to get the fish.

Level of plankton in an ocean area is not a good predictor for the amount of fish that can be caught. There are other aspects that the fish population depends on. The fish population depends on its climate. The population also depends on its ecosystem.

Since climate is constantly changing its causing corruption in the food chains int the oceans, for an example if the fish population is going down then a snowball effect happens and the smaller organisms will increase. if certain fish depend on seaweed and the climate for the seaweed is not at its proper growing level those critters will suffer and disrupt the food chain.

The climate changing may be good for plankton but more plankton in the ocean isn't always good. More plankton shows that the ocean's temperature is increasing making it hard for the fish that are used to living in cold water live in a new warmer environment. The fish dieing starts a chain reaction because once one food source dies then another dies that depended on it and so on.

The findings allow for better predictions of catch potential in different ecosystems. Also Phytoplankton require light, found at the surface of the ocean, and nutrients, which tend to accumulate in deeper waters, to grow and create the energy needed to support fisheries.

The phytoplankton that tend to accumulate in deeper waters, require light and nutrients to grow and create the energy needed to support fisheries. The warming of the surface ocean due to climate change is increasing the segregation of deep and surface waters. The effects of this will be amplified in low and mid-latitude areas, where modest to moderate declines in phytoplankton production, could result in fish catch decreases that may exceed 50% in some places.

A study using mathematical models to explore the process of transferring energy from the base of the food web to fish displayed a large regional difference due to surface ocean and bottom ecosystems channeling energy sources. Coastal systems cultivate much of the key nutrients critical for phytoplanktons growth are upwelled from deep water due to currents.Surprisingly the global fish catch exceeds what one would expect in this area. Climate change effects are becoming amplified in low and mid latitude areas. Due to phytoplankton declining 15% to more than 50% of fish catch will decrease .

The study used to determine the correlation between phytoplankton and fish catch in certain parts of the ocean uses a "mathematical model to explore the processes that mediate the transfer of energy from the base of the food web to fish." Scientists have determined that there is a difference between the amount of fish caught in certain areas due to the way surface ocean and bottom ecosystems channel energy sources. Climate change is expected to increase ocean stratification which will in turn decrease phytoplankton production which will decrease fish catches in certain areas.

Phytoplankton at the surface ocean will be affected by climate change in that production of phytoplankton will be reduced by 50%. This could lead to a drastic change in the food web.

Much of the oceans fish population depends on phytoplankton, Many researchers have confirmed that if phytoplankton were to decrease by 15% in a particular area could cause a decrease of about 50% of fish catching. Phytoplankton thrive in water where they could get their nutrients from the sun, so if it becomes colder weather then phytoplankton can live on, they start to die and much of the fish tank that live off of phytoplankton could die off

It was thought that the amount of phytoplankton would better help fisherman find out where the most fish were. This is not entirely true because there are many more factors that go into the amount of fish in an area besides phytoplankton. Climate change can affect food chains by the climate changing rapidly affecting the growth of plant life that other ocean life live off of, a change in one species or plant would affect a whole food chain

When the climate changes in a ocean area the life in that area are not used to the temp changes therefor they are forced to move around and leave there pray without food. This causes the lack of energy movement around the ocean and it could have a long term affect on the food chain.

Each group of Plankton are different in their characteristics and in the way they adapt to their ocean level environments. They are separated through mathematics to show their difference in energy movement throughout the ocean. Climate change affects the temperature of the water, which affects the ocean food chain severely.

Phytoplankton get there nutrients from the sun so the fish can not entirely depend on them for food. Climate also affects the fish that are feeding off the phytoplankton. Less fish will be caught because they will not be feeding off these fish and nutrients, which means the food chain is being affected because they are not eating.

the climate affects the food chain how cause it affects fish growth and phytoplankton growth during conversion.the climate also effects a large regional difference in fishing and what that does is it affects the channels ecosystem energy .Also cause the phytoplankton production to decline thats because phytoplankton need the sun for nutrients but with weather change the production decreases.

Researchers are trying to use the amounts of phytoplankton are a indicator of how fish are doing in that area, and these levels are showing to them how climate change is affecting phytoplankton

the climate change effects food chains because the effect of climate change on fisherie productions allows the work to do more in these products. after the climate change impact will allow researchers to find new ecosystems.
